Here we go!
What is IDELT?
IDELT is the top-tier certification for teachers of English as a second language. It is offered through our partners at BridgeTEFL as a fully accredited, online TEFL/TESOL certification.
The program takes 12 weeks to complete, and once you’ve worked through the process, you will be a certified IDELT teacher.
The Bridge International Diploma in English Language Teaching (IDELT- Online) is In this interactive course in teaching English as a second language, you’ll join a group of trainees who work through content together, week-by-week, under the guidance of a masters-level instructor.
You must be at least 18 years old to enroll in the course and have either a high school diploma or the equivalent.
In order to enroll, you must be fluent in English. If you are not a native English speaker, you will be expected to show proof of English fluency at a C1 level or higher, according to the Common European Framework.
In addition, your English level must be verified with the results of a recently taken English proficiency test (showing the equivalent to an IELTS test score of at least 7.0) or you must pass an English proficiency test administered by Bridge.
You will also be required to purchase IDELT – Online: The Practice of English Language Teaching, by Jeremy Harmer (5th edition, with DVD) as the official course textbook to accompany your studies.
This textbook can be ordered online and shipped to you just about anywhere in the world.
Your overall grade for the IDELT certification course — essentially, whether you pass or fail — is based on your ability to timely complete the quizzes, forum discussions, and a final paper or group project at the end of the course.
OK, but do I really need an IDELT certification?
The short answer, at least in the case of many English teachers, is that a lower-level TEFL certification will do in most cases (though certainly not all).
But if you’re serious about turning English teaching, whether online or on-location, into your long-term career, an IDELT will take your resume, knowledge, and experience to the next level.
You will stand out from other job applicants and will enter new positions with more authority than you would otherwise (and in some cases, you’ll be able to command a higher salary!)
How much does the IDELT certification cost?
Through our partner BridgeTEFL, the full program costs $1,295 USD. This is a bargain, especially considering you’re getting the certification entirely online.
The IDELT is graduate-level training and is taught by master’s level instructors through BridgeTEFL.
If you are considering enrolling in university-level classes in the near future, BridgeTEFL offers their IDELT certification in partnership with U.S. universities including the University of Northern Colorado and Texas A&M University Texarcana.
You will have the option to earn college credit, which makes the program even more valuable. The IDELT – Online gives you the option to earn 3 graduate-level credits by completing the program.
Is the IDELT certification accredited?
Their accreditation is the main reason we chose BridgeTEFL as our TEFL partner. Your certification will be recognized by language schools, governments, and other formal organizations around the globe.
