Teachers and educators have a wealth of valuable knowledge. With the rise in international connectivity, that knowledge can now reach those in need on a global scale and this is where Info-Products come in. 

They are a very real and fun way to educate thousands of people and make a healthy, consistent income. 

So, what are Info-Products exactly, how do you construct them and what are the most viable ways of building a big-enough audience to make your efforts profitable? 

On a recent episode of the Anomalous Educator podcast, the CEO and Co-founder of Kyvio, Neil Napier, gave some insight into how you can create valuable online courses and perpetually monetize them. 

What is an Info-product?

An info product is an easily accessible digital education tool. In the early days, info products were exclusively PDFs, but with the technological evolution, the dynamics have changed, with high-quality, downloadable videos and audio, seminars and webinars coming to the table. 

“That to me is an info product, basically you collect your knowledge and your expertise into this tangible item that people can listen to these days, or watch or even read and get something tangible out of it,” says Neil. 

Get Your Mindset Right

Teaching is an undervalued skill; there is no doubt about that. Not everyone is born to teach, so conveying messages in a way that is understandable and interesting is a real asset. In order to create a great Info-Product, the first thing you should assess is your own mindset. 

“A lot of teachers don’t give themselves enough credit for what they know,” Neil explains, or “how good they are at shaping lives, at creating a change in people.” 

 “They don’t need to be stuck in one-on-one sessions, because what they know could literally transform the lives of thousands of people.” It’s something that you not only owe to yourself but also the world. 

The Creation Process

As an educator, you probably have a mountain of learning materials that you’ve developed over time. This is your goldmine. The hard work has been done; you just have to collate that into a sellable product like an eBook or a course.

This step can be simple, just write a table of contents of what you can teach.

“Maybe you have some curriculum that you often go through with your students. Just turn that curriculum into an online course.” 

Then, create an outline of that course, “If it’s a course which is going to take 10 hours to teach, write down the first hour, what’s that going to be about?” Neil says, and keep progressing through the content, hour by hour until you have a tangible product.

So, bring together content that you have already established and used in the past, and start to logically construct it into a larger course.

Build Trust and an Audience

To make an Info-Product successful you need to build an audience. Many educators find this particular step difficult but there are simple methods to generate a loyal following. 

Gabby Wallace, the queen of Info-Products, increased her audience from zero to one million by creating daily YouTube videos for those wanting to learn English. If videos aren’t your forte, then try creating a Facebook group or fan page where you teach people through micro-nuggets of educational material. 

You can also lend your expertise on forums such as Quora, and build a name for yourself that way.

“Yes, it will require a little bit of marketing, but as long as you are willing to provide value, people will come, they will pay attention.”

Sell Your Product

Selling something may be considered a nightmare scenario for most people, but it’s a necessary component if you want to make your product lucrative. 

Say you have an audience of 100 individuals, it would be hard to sell a $1,000 course right off the bat, so lower the barrier of entry to just $1. You may be thinking, “Wait, I’m missing out on the big bucks here,” but trust me, you’re not.  

Neil suggests that you should consider offering that deal to a limited number of people, then encourage those lucky few to attend a live, face-to-face video call which is their opportunity to offer feedback. 

During this time, you get the information you need to improve the product, while also opening up the chance to offer other products you have hidden behind the scenes. 

Also adding the bonus of a money-back incentive if they don’t enjoy the course is a sure-fire way to get them on a feedback session call. 

Neil approaches potential buyers by saying, “It’s only going to cost you $1, but if you like it then you pay another $47,” if they don’t, then they get a full refund.

 “Even if they don’t buy, that’s feedback enough for you.”

Once you have the initial steps in place, the machine will eventually start working by itself and you don’t have to be so present in the selling process. 

Therefore, you can stop trading time for money, and begin focusing on developing other pieces of amazing sellable content, or like Neil, spend much more time with his family.

“Teachers, literally their only job is to make the world a better place. That sounds corny, but I think it’s true,” says Neil.
